The Island!

Remember to research books as well as reading my reviews!

Welcome to the wilderness! Now, in theory, an island getaway for 6 teenagers seems like a fun idea; they'll learn skills from their guide, build better bonds, and leave their parents alone for a week. What could go wrong? Well, apart from their guide dying, the boat's wire being cut and the fact their worst fears seem to be coming true. Add a lack of sanity to the mix and you've got yourself an amazing read. Meet the 'lucky' six: Jessie, traumatised after watching her brother die leaving her with a lack of trust in anyone; Danny, Honour's boyfriend who is also traumatised after his mum died in a car accident, which he was also in, lets just say refusing therapy won't get you far Danny; Honour, Danny's girlfriend, though she seems to be unhappy in their relationship, or at least quieter, she also has family issues with divorced parents; Jefferson, an average kid except for the fact he's an upcoming expert in wilderness survival with a passion for being the boss; Milo, Jessie's secret admirer, though it's not so secret anymore, and nobody seems to like their fleeting romance; and Meg, Milo's sister, Honour's best friend, school bully's targets, and possibly, Danny's worst nightmare... So, how would you fare in a world of betrayal, hunger and ..... lack of WIFI? It sounds easier than it looks, trust me. Because, how can you think others will help you survive when you also think they could be the death of you

This book is such an emotional an rollercoaster. From plot twists to trauma and everything in between, this book has it all. I loved how each character had their own thought process, and we could clearly see that through the perspective being switched throughout the book. The way it described Danny's emotions, as he slowly went insane (almost), was incredible. I truly felt bad for him, disgusted of him, shocked because of him. I felt a sense of understanding with the characters, as I am very scared of being alone of getting lost. The violent scenes were very fun to read as well, and by fun I mean they were exciting. A lot of action was packed into what seems like a simple story: teenagers go on holiday to an island, they get stuck there, they go insane, they have to survive for a week or so. Very basic when you put it like that, but the relationships and arguments and struggle to survive make this a much more complex and interesting storyline. Not to mention, I finished it within a day or two. A very thrilling read, and I would definitely recommend to others.

Note: This book does contain some very violent scenes, which are graphic to an extent. If you are sensitive to some of the topics in this book (such as death, trauma, car accidents, fire etc.) please research this book a bit further if you still wish to read it. Thank you

Age Rating: It says this book is for young adults, but personally I think somebody who is my age (12) could read it. Perhaps a bit older, 14 maybe.

Star Rating: 4.8 Stars 🌟
