Queenie!

Do not be fooled by this books happy cover! A much sadder story hides behind this smiling girl and angelic cat. Elsie lives with her Nan - Mum's always at work doing shows. They've both got a cough, but it's just a cold right? Wrong, sadly Nan has TB, a very serious disease. Worst of all, it doesn't look like she's going to recover. How could things get worse? Elsie has also got TB and is going to be taken to a hospital! It may not sound bad, but children's hospitals were much less comfortable with contraptions like splints to cure them. Will Elsie recover, will Nan recover? Will Elsie survive the cruel Nurse Patterson?
I LOVE THIS BOOK! Though it was rather sad at parts, I enjoyed reading this book as this is Elsie's sort of diary and it conveys her emotions really well. One complaint though, about Elsie's character, not the book: Elsie needs to get a grip. Countless times has she cried and by the end I was getting annoyed with her. That shows how great of an author Jacqueline Wilson is, because I felt the characters emotions. The story is also really entertaining with unexpected twists and a surprising ending. The book is quite long but the way she has written it makes it seem much shorter than it actually is. A great book, would definitely recommend.
