Jessica's Ghost!

So, because I am in Year 6 we have had a few transition days for senior school and the senior school I am going to has a library. The teachers there let us take out a few library books for summer and my friends ran up to me and showed me this because my name is Jessica, Jessica's ghost. Get it? Anyway, so I got this book and it was not what I had expected at all! I'm now going to vaguely explain the books story line with a few warnings of mature content, though this book is junior fiction. So Francis is a lonely boy who likes sewing, unlike most boys in his school, he is a bit of an outcast for this reason. One day he is sitting outside when a girl comes and sits next to him. He says hello and this surprises the girl. Why? She is dead and no one has been able to see her for the past year!!! The two quickly bond and everything seems perfect, until Francis's mum invites a girl over to meet him and hopefully make friends before she starts at his school! Francis, nor Jessica are overly keen on this idea, but soon realise Francis isn't the only one who can see Jessica! Making many friends, dark secrets are revealed and a large twist at the end makes this story thrilling and impossible to put down!

A quick warning: this book contains mention of self harm and depression. It is a main point in the book and every parent should be aware that this subject is in the book. I informed my parents as soon as I read the book and we talked about the detail it went into and whether I myself felt comfortable reading it. It doesn't go into much detail for self harm, but goes more deeply into the topic of mental health issues and depression. However, the book is ultimately wholesome and is about helping people with their mental health and no one is harmed in the end. On a more cheery note, this book was extremely engrossing and entertaining to read. I enjoyed every word and was shocked with the ending. The moral of the story is very important and the way they wrote the book was incredible. The amazing plot and character description made me read it in the span of only 3 days! Would recommend, but definitely for older children.
